Course Objective: The overall goal of the course is to provide a thorough understanding on the principles of bioavailability and acquisition of mineral nutrients by crop plants, assimilation of mineral nutrients, and interactions of plant roots with the soil environment and its effect on fertilizer use efficiency.

I. Soil Fertility

    a. Types of nutrient cycle

    b. Nutrient cycle of all essential nutrients

    c. Transport mechanisms of nutrients

    d. Management practices affecting soil nutrient dynamics

II. Plant Nutrition

    a. Fundamental processes in plants (involve in growth and development)

    b. Membrane transport, ion uptake and long-distance transport of nutrients

    c. Chemistry and assimilation of nutrients in plants, and mineral nutrition

    d. Applied aspect of mineral nutrition (pest/disease management, abiotic stresses, problem soils)
